Project Description

The Benicia High School Master Plan provides the framework for a complete reconstruction of the existing 1,100 student school. The design takes the existing campus with a “hodge podge” of 40 year old permanent and relocatable buildings and reorganizes the entire campus. The restrictive, steep site required great creativity in order to provide a new campus for 2,400 students. By terracing the site and placing new two-story buildings that step up the hill, we were able to provide the needed classroom space as well as valuable open student gathering space.

To complicate the project, the school was to remain in use throughout the duration of the rebuilding process and the funding stream required the project to be built over 10 years in 9 phases.

One of the features includes a Gymnasium expansion that utilized the existing Gymnasium yet adds a two-story addition to provide an additional 1,000 spectator seats as well as a weight room, dance room, wrestling room and classroom space.
