Project Description

The new High School is designed around the “House Concept” or smaller schools within a school. The campus contains four identical “Houses” all self contained schools. Each school, or “House”, contains core curriculum classrooms (Math, History, English and Science) and self contained administration. A fifth “House” contains the applied academic classrooms (Business, Art, Vocational Ed., Home Ec., Music, etc.). Each classroom is oriented around its own courtyard linked with circulation malls.

The entire campus focuses on a central amphitheater adjacent to food service, media center and central administration. All buildings are equipped with advanced technology, including a media retrieval system, computer-aided science labs, and applied technology labs. All computer labs are networked throughout the district.

The High School is designed to be extremely energy efficient, utilizing both passive and active techniques. The classroom buildings incorporate natural daylighting and ventilation features. A high effiency central gas heating and cooling plant provides the campus’s heat and air conditioning. Roof top solar planels provide hot water for the pool. This campus won the 1991 CASH Award of Honor recipient with the highest amount of energy funding awarded to any campus in the state of California.
