Project Description

The Mountain Oaks / Mountain Ranch School is a combination of a County 6-12 grade Community School for at-risk youth and a K-12 Charter School. The Community School follows the state adopted standards for direct instruction and remedial services when needed. The goal of this school is that all students graduate and pass the High School Exit Exam. This combined campus was designed to be able to provide independent entrances, drop-offs, and common spaces for each school yet share some facilities, specifically the Gymnasium, Performing Arts, Food Service and shared classroom spaces.

Both schools also share outdoor play areas and physical education space. The goal of the facility is to provide independent identities of each school, while providing the resources that a shared facility provides them.

Every student is required to participate in physical education. Both the Community School and the Charter School participate in athletic competitions and are part of CIF activities. Therefore, a gymnasium large enough to accommodate high school regulation full court basketball wass required as well as outdoor play fields to accommodate high school regulation baseball, soccer, and football.
